Grief Prompt #3

Describe why you chose your baby's name, what it meant to you then and what it means to you now

We had a huge list of baby names for each gender, but towards the end of the pregnancy, I secretly started calling him Wilder. We waited to see what he looked like when he was born, and immediately we knew he was Wilder Anzel. We loved the name Wilder because we wanted to show him all of the wild and beautiful places on earth that we love. And Anzel after Ansel Adams, our favorite photographer who also loved wild beautiful places. We also wanted to name him after Ansel Adams because he was creative and innovative. We wanted to raise Wilder to be a free-thinker that had a deep appreciation of nature and felt that he had a place on earth.

Looking up his name later we found that some interpretations mean "Wild Angel". What a fitting name for him. That is why I called this blog WilderThenLife, because he was wilder than life and is now free.

His name is so precious to us and is our favorite name. We would struggle to find another name we love so much, partially because it is his and our love for him is so deep and vast.

We forever hold his name dear and speak it daily when we talk of him.

Interestingly, my employer donated a forest of trees in Arizona in Wilder's honor, without even knowing his name yet. So fitting for our wild boy.

Love you Wilder xoxo
